Arbortec had the pleasure of attending and being apart of our very first European Tree Climbing Championships in France this weekend. What an amazing event to be apart of and cheer on the insanely talented arborists from all over Europe. With 60 competitors in the preliminary events and stunning weather, day 1 was set to be a scorcher. The preliminaries consisted of 5 events: an aerial rescue, work climb, throw line, speed climb and ascent climb. The top 8 climbers would go through to the Masters on the following day (3 women and 5 men). Day 1 did not disappoint and every event saw friends, families and fellow arborists out in full force cheering on the climbers. The events showcased the arborists skills, speed, agility and knowledge of different aspects of tree climbing and the passion from everyone involved was infectious.
Day 2, Masters day, the top climbers that qualified from prelims would now be competing in an individually timed work climb. Each climber had 30 minutes to set their lines, ascend and get to each station around the tree before descending and removing all their climbing systems safely. The climbers would need to talk through certain aspects of their procedure with the judges and ensure every element of the climb was carried out safely, if not the climbers ran the risk of being disqualified. The Masters had an incredible atmosphere and was a privilege for Arbortec to sponsor such a prestigious event and watch in awe at the talented arborists.
Congratulations to all the finalists and a huge thank you to the organisers and volunteers for their hospitality, the teams worked incredibly hard to put the event together and create such a wonderful competition for all to enjoy. We look forward to next year!!
