Our Journey
From small beginnings to global reach, Arbortec has always been built on passion, innovation, and community.
The Arbortec story began in 1992 when two brothers, fresh from sixth form, started out selling an Italian range of safety footwear under the name Safeguy. In 1994, they opened their first trade counter, offering a mix of PPE and a small selection of outdoor clothing.
Between 1999 and 2010, steady growth and direct collaboration with tradespeople and outdoor professionals provided invaluable insight into market needs. This knowledge led to the founding of Arbortec Forestwear.
In 2014, Arbortec transformed the chainsaw apparel industry with the launch of the Breatheflex technical chainsaw trousers, the first to combine high-performance protection with vibrant, distinctive colours. With demand continuing to grow, Arbortec opened its own dedicated factory in Portugal in 2017, securing greater control over production and innovation.

By 2021, Arbortec had purchased a new Innovation Centre and relocated its distribution facilities, cementing its position as an industry leader in the design, manufacture, and delivery of cutting-edge chainsaw apparel.
In 2026, the Arbortec world-class Innovation Centre (AIC) was officially opened. It has been developed as a hub designed to drive product development, sustainability, and the future of chainsaw protection on a global scale, fostering innovation, collaboration, and industry-leading excellence for years to come.

Home to our headquarters since 2022, our world-class Innovation Centre in Swaffham, United Kingdom, is the heart of everything we create. The Arbortec AIC Lab
At its core is our own laboratory, where product is designed, tested and refined. Long before any product reaches certification, it is put through rigorous in-house testing, including chainsaw, abrasion, snag and cut testing. Arbortec sits on international standards committees, helping to shape the safety requirements and testing methods used across the entire industry. We do not simply build to the standard. We help write it. Performance is never assumed. It is proven.

In 2017, with demand outpacing supply, we took full control of production by opening our own factory in Portugal. This is where our operations team brings every design to life. It is not a distant supplier we hand a brief to. It is an extension of our own team, made in Europe to standards we set and uphold ourselves.
Owning our factory means we control quality at every stitch, rather than outsourcing it to the lowest bidder. The result is protective apparel built properly, not built cheaply. We build with premium materials from the finest names in the industry, including Avertic chainsaw protective fabric from Sweden and YKK components, so that quality runs through every layer.

Making chainsaw PPE is genuinely complex. Multiple layers of long, loose protective fibres must be engineered to draw into a chainsaw and lock the chain solid on contact, all while keeping the wearer cool, comfortable and free to move. Very few manufacturers can strike that balance. Many of our operations team have worked together for years, and that skilled craftsmanship shows in the detail.
