Women in Solar: Poppy Eyre on Breaking Barriers and Finding Workwear That Fits
Some jobs rarely look the same two days running. One day is spent behind a desk, the next outside in the rain, on machinery or working through a long day on site. That is exactly the kind of working life Poppy Eyre knows.
At 21, Poppy works across everything from accounts and quotations to reseeding solar farms for family business Earth & Sun. Her role is varied, practical and almost impossible to dress for with just one type of working day in mind. It is also a good example of where Arbortec is being worn today.
While our roots remain firmly in arboriculture, our clothing is now finding its way into farming, renewable energy, land management, construction and infrastructure: industries where comfort, protection and durability matter just as much.
For the latest chapter of our Inspire series, we caught up with Poppy about how she found her way back to outdoor work, what life at Earth & Sun really looks like and why having workwear that can keep up makes such a difference.
Growing Up Around The Job
For Poppy, working around land and machinery started long before it became a career.
Despite that upbringing, her first step after school took her in a very different direction.
“After finishing school, I decided to go straight into work and tried my hand in the financial industry. It was fun being in London, but I got bored quite quickly and would often join my dad and my partner while they were working away at weekends.”
Those weekends made the decision increasingly obvious.
“I eventually decided to make the move and swap the London commute for the family business.”
From The Office To The Outdoors
Earth & Sun began after Poppy’s dad sold his previous company and started again as a consultant within the industry. Office life did not last long.
Today, Earth & Sun works across solar farm land management, infrastructure and utilities support, biodiversity net gain delivery and environmental contracting. Its work takes the team across renewable energy projects, infrastructure, estates and wider land management, with a focus on combining ecological understanding with practical delivery on the ground.
For Poppy, that means her own role is just as varied.
“My role now involves a huge variety of things, from managing our accounts, projects and quotations to putting in the hours on a tractor reseeding a solar farm.”
That variety is exactly what she enjoys.
“I’m in my element being outside, with every day and every project bringing something slightly different.”
Workwear That Has To Keep Up
When your working day can move between the office, machinery and site work, your clothing needs to be just as adaptable.
“Working outside in all conditions requires good gear, which is why we’ve all switched to Arbortec.”
For the Earth & Sun team, performance is not about one particular job. It is about having kit that works across changing weather, physical tasks and different environments throughout the week.
It is a requirement that will feel familiar to plenty of Arbortec customers. The setting might change, but the fundamentals often do not. Whether climbing, working on a solar farm, maintaining an estate or spending the day on an infrastructure project, the need remains the same: clothing that is comfortable, durable and ready to work as hard as you do.
Finding Kit That Actually Fits
For Poppy, there is another part of good workwear that matters just as much: fit.
For women working in outdoor and traditionally male-dominated industries, that compromise is still all too common. Poppy has found a different experience with Arbortec.
“Arbortec has been a godsend. They’ve created something practical, smart and, dare I say it, stylish. It’s a win-win all round. I can be comfortable while doing the job I love.”
Good workwear should make the working day easier, not give you something else to think about. When the fit is right and the clothing performs, the focus can stay where it belongs: on the job.
Arbortec, Wherever The Work Takes You
Arboriculture will always be at the heart of Arbortec. It is where our understanding of demanding outdoor work began, and where many of our products continue to be put through their toughest days.
But the same qualities that matter in tree work matter far beyond it. That is why we are increasingly seeing Arbortec worn across farming, renewable energy, land management, construction and infrastructure, by people whose working days demand just as much from their kit.
Poppy is one of them. Her route into the industry may not have been completely straightforward, but at 21 she has already found the kind of work that suits her: varied, practical and outdoors.
And whether the day takes her from a spreadsheet to a tractor or from the yard to a solar farm, she needs clothing that is ready to go with her. That is exactly what it is built for.
